Sheltie is short for Shetland Sheepdog, a herding breed that originates from the Shetland Islands near Scotland, and has been bred in North America since the early 1900's. Shelties are often called miniature collies, as they look like a rough collie in miniature, but they are actually a totally separate breed with differences in structure and temperament.
Well I came into this world on May 28. I lived with my breeder until I was 4 months old. They wanted to keep me as the stud I am but due to imperfect ears I was not chosen to be a stud. I then met a wonderful family that took me home to meet a cat named Sasha whom I like but doesn't like me. My owners take care of me really well, they give me anything I want, well most of the time and I have a big yard to play in.
I have a neighbour and her name is Kayse and she is small like me but white. Shes a lot older but I call her my girlfriend anyways. We like to play together. I don't like to talk to other dogs unless they come to my house. I am very nervous of other bigger dogs.
I like to take my owners for short walks. I have to show them where to go because they don't know where they are going. I always have to pull them home because they get so tired.
I am allergic to some needles and I had a little fall that hurt my shoulder of which I've gotten over but ever now and then acts up. I am after all 8 years old. I don't like new people and I like everyone to stay in one place. No one is allowed to hug unless it includes me and I don't like any thing that moves including kleenx. I eat from left to right and if you mix it up then I have to start over again.
Polo was a wonderful dog for our family. He came to us 8 ½ years ago from Mrs. Pratt. We love little Polo so much. He was a wonderful dog that was every bit a sheltie. Unfortunately on August 28, 2006 Polo passed away.
We had noticed Polo wasn’t eating any more and after a week of eating very little we took him to the vet where he had a blood test that revealed nothing. We thought he may have swallowed a sock, something that has happened before but passed quickly.
We then tried some anti nausea medication which again didn’t do anything for him. He was still a happy dog but was not himself in that he was very tired and not full of energy. After a weekend with Polo not eating and still being sick to his stomach the vet said that surgery was needed to see if they could get what ever was in his stomach out. Well after only 10 minutes of being in surgery the vet found his cause. Polo had 2 tumors and his intestines were completely covered with cancer.
After the biopsy came back it showed that Polo had a cancer that worked very fast and that he had only had it for a month or 2 at most.
We are lucky in a way Polo didn’t suffer very long if any. We didn’t really get a chance to say good bye or to give him one last treat. But we know that it was best for him.
Polo is very much missed. Our family loves him very much. The house is quiet and our shadow (Polo) no longer follows us. We would like to make sure that everyone knows how much we love Polo and what a wonderful companion he was.
Things to remember about Polo: eating left to right, barking at the printer and the door bell, not liking strange people in the house, loved French fries, popcorn, rice, bread, doggie cookies, rawhide bones, cat food, loved walking home, jumping in the tub when strangers where in the house, loved to play monkey in the middle with tennis and footballs never retrieving either, herding people at the door, staying awake until Nathan came home, sleeping on the cool floors, loving winter and cool days, dirty socks, loved the country and drives with his family, he loved to cuddle when he felt like it, flash lights, and so much more things.
We love our Polo and wish we had more time with him. He is very missed and can’t ever be replaced. We are thankful for the time we had with him and how much he touched our lives.
